Candle Care Tips & Tricks

Candles are meant to add a fragrant dimension, a touch of class and a sleek decor element to your home but to get the most out of your candle its best to follow these tips to ensure a safe candle experience and to prolong the life of your candle.

Your first burn is the most important. Please allow the candle to burn long enough for the wax to melt completely to the edge of the container. If this is not done tunneling of the candle could happen. Most candles should produce a full melt pool within 2 to 4 hours but could take longer. Stay committed. It will be worth it.

Avoid burning your candle for more than 5 hours at a time. A 5 hour burn would be for a large candle. If your candle is smaller, reduce burn time down. You do not want your vessel to become too hot or for the flame to become too high. Large amount of sooting, wild flickering, and/or a large deep melt pool are signs that you should extinguish your flame.

Trim the wick(s) before each and every burn. The wick should be ¼ inch at the beginning of each burn period. This will maximize the amount of burn hours you get from your candle and ensure that it burns evenly. Make sure the wax has harden before you trim to prevent any of the trimmed access from getting stuck in the wax.

If you see that your wick is mushrooming and creating a heavy black round tip please gently extinguish the flame and trim the wick. You do not want the mushrooming to get into the wax and spread into the candle.

The best way to trim your wick is using a wick trimmer. We have some for purchase here on our site. If you do not have a trimmer a pair of scissors or a finger nail clipper can be used for the time being.

The best way to extinguish a candle is using a candle snuffer. We have some for purchase here online.

Ensure that your candle burns only on a stable surface and away from heavy walkways, fans, drafts, and open windows and doors.

Keep your candle free of dirt and dust. This could become flammable.

Keep candles away from children and pets.

Removing any discoloration from the candle vessel can be done after the candle is cooled and using a dry cloth.
